Iowa CDL A requirements include ELDT theory training for all first-time applicants. Since the FMCSA ELDT mandate took effect on February 7, 2022, all drivers applying for a Class A CDL for the first time must complete theory training with an approved provider before they can take the CDL skills test at Iowa DOT - Motor Vehicle Division.
Already have a CDL? If you obtained your CDL before February 7, 2022, you are exempt from ELDT for that license class. But if you are upgrading from Class B to Class A, ELDT is still required.
