Getting your Class A CDL in Missouri means working through the Missouri Department of Revenue — Motor Vehicle and Driver Licensing (MO DOR). The federal FMCSA requires ELDT (Entry-Level Driver Training) before you can test for your Class A license. DLA Academy's CDL-A Theory ELDT covers the federal mandate — online, $20, completes in under 2 hours. After you finish, we auto-submit your certificate to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR) within 24 hours. You'll still need to arrange behind-the-wheel training separately at a local FMCSA-registered provider before taking the Class A skills test.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What does CDL-A Theory ELDT cover?+
CDL-A Theory ELDT covers the federal ELDT curriculum: basic vehicle control, safe operating practices, hazard perception, and on-road driving. It is theory only — no behind-the-wheel (BTW) component. DLA Academy's course completes in under 2 hours. After you pass, you'll need to complete BTW training at a separate FMCSA-registered provider in Missouri before you can take the Class A skills test at MO DOR.
How much does CDL-A Theory ELDT cost?+
CDL-A Theory ELDT is $20. If you also need CDL-B and DMV permit-prep study material, consider the CDL Complete Bundle — $45 total (saves $10 vs. buying all three separately). That bundle includes CDL-A Theory, CDL-B Theory, and the 119-question CDL Permit Prep study tool.
How long does the course take?+
CDL-A Theory ELDT completes in under 2 hours. You can do it all at once or break it into multiple sessions — your progress is saved. Once you finish and pass the final quiz, we auto-submit your certificate to the FMCSA TPR within 24 hours.
Is DLA Academy FMCSA-approved and will my certificate be accepted in Missouri?+
Yes. DLA Academy is FMCSA-approved and listed on the Training Provider Registry. Your CDL-A Theory ELDT certificate is auto-submitted to the TPR within 24 hours of completion. MO DOR verifies ELDT completion by checking the TPR — no separate submission from you. The certificate is accepted in Missouri and 48 other states (Washington is the only exception).
Who needs CDL-A Theory ELDT? What about grandfathering?+
You need ELDT if you're getting your first CDL or upgrading from Class B to Class A after February 7, 2022. If you got your CDL before that date, your Class A license is grandfathered — you don't retroactively need ELDT for the license itself. However, if you want to add a new endorsement (Hazmat, Passenger, or School Bus) to a grandfathered license, you still need the ELDT for that endorsement. Check MO DOR's website for the most current rules.
