What ELDT courses does DLA Academy offer?+

Each individual ELDT course (CDL-A Theory, CDL-B Theory, Hazmat, Passenger, School Bus) completes in under 2 hours. You work through the material online at your own pace, and as soon as you finish and pass, your completion certificate is auto-submitted to FMCSA TPR within 24 hours.
Do I need ELDT to get my CDL in Iowa?+
If your Iowa driver's license was issued before February 7, 2022, you are grandfathered and do not need retroactive ELDT. However, if you are upgrading to a new class (e.g., from Class B to Class A) or adding a new endorsement (H, P, or S), you must complete the relevant FMCSA-approved ELDT course. If your license was issued on or after February 7, 2022, ELDT is required for any CDL or endorsement. Check with the Iowa DOT MVD if you are unsure of your status.
What happens after I complete my ELDT course?+
After you finish your ELDT course and pass the final assessment, DLA Academy auto-submits your completion record to FMCSA's Training Provider Registry within 24 hours. The Iowa DOT MVD verifies your ELDT enrollment by querying the TPR. You will then have your proof of completion to present when you apply for your CDL with Iowa DOT MVD. Note: ELDT is theory only. You must also complete behind-the-wheel (BTW) training at a local FMCSA-registered provider before taking Iowa's CDL skills test.
