ELDT Courses & CDL Training for Utah Drivers

We offer five FMCSA-approved ELDT courses: CDL-A Theory ELDT, CDL-B Theory ELDT, Hazmat ELDT, Passenger ELDT, and School Bus ELDT. Each course is $20 and completes in under 2 hours. We also offer the CDL-A Permit Prep ($15) — a DMV practice-question study tool with 119 questions on general knowledge, air brakes, and combination vehicles. Bundles are available: the CDL Complete Bundle ($45) includes CDL-A ELDT, CDL-B ELDT, and Permit Prep (saves $10 vs. individual); the 3-Endorsement Bundle ($50) includes Hazmat, Passenger, and School Bus ELDT (saves $10 vs. individual); and the Hazmat + DMV Test Prep Bundle ($30) pairs Hazmat ELDT with Permit Prep (saves $5).

Anyone applying for a CDL (Class A, B, or C) or a new endorsement (H, P, or S) after February 7, 2022 must complete FMCSA-approved ELDT. If you got your CDL before February 7, 2022, you're grandfathered and don't need retroactive ELDT — but you still need ELDT if you're upgrading to a different class or adding a new endorsement. Your completion is automatically submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR) within 24 hours. The Utah DLD verifies your ELDT status by querying the TPR — you don't need to submit anything yourself. Once verified, you're eligible to apply for your Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) or take the skills test.

Yes. ELDT is the theory portion only. You must complete behind-the-wheel training separately at a local FMCSA-registered BTW provider before taking the skills test with the Utah DLD. DLA Academy does not provide BTW — we handle the online ELDT step. Your BTW provider will be a separate business.
