Utah CDL-B Theory ELDT — Get Your Class B License Online

CDL-B Theory ELDT is the online classroom training required by federal law before you take the Class B CDL skills test with Utah DLD. It covers vehicle operation, safety, regulations, and hazard recognition specific to Class B trucks (26,001+ lbs GVWR, single vehicle). It does NOT include behind-the-wheel training — you'll complete BTW separately at a local FMCSA-registered provider after passing theory.

CDL-B Theory ELDT completes in under 2 hours. You can spread it across multiple sessions or knock it out in one sitting — it's entirely self-paced. Once you finish, your completion is auto-submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours, and Utah DLD can verify it.

CDL-B Theory ELDT is $20. That's the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option — competitors typically charge $25–$60. If you already hold a CDL-B issued before February 7, 2022, you're grandfathered — you don't need retroactive ELDT just to keep your license. However, if you upgrade to CDL-A or add a new endorsement (Hazmat, Passenger, School Bus), you'll need ELDT for that upgrade or endorsement, even if your original license is grandfathered.

Your completion certificate is auto-submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours. Utah DLD verifies your ELDT completion by querying that registry — no separate submission to Utah DLD is required. Once verified, you're cleared to schedule your Class B skills test. Remember: you still need to complete behind-the-wheel training at a local FMCSA-registered BTW provider and obtain your Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) from Utah DLD before the skills test.
