New Mexico Passenger ELDT – P Endorsement Training

The Passenger ELDT is an FMCSA-approved online training course required to obtain a P (Passenger) endorsement on your CDL. It covers safe operation of vehicles designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including pre-trip inspections, emergency procedures, passenger communication, and cargo security. This course is theory only — you'll need hands-on behind-the-wheel training separately at a local provider before taking your skills test with the NM MVD.

The Passenger ELDT is $20. That's the lowest price for FMCSA-approved Passenger training on the market — most other providers charge $23–$75 for the same course. If you need multiple endorsements, check our 3-Endorsement Bundle (Hazmat + Passenger + School Bus) for $50 total and save $10.

The Passenger ELDT takes under 2 hours to complete from start to finish. You can work through it at your own pace, pause and resume anytime, and finish on your own schedule.

The NM MVD requires completion of an FMCSA-approved ELDT course before you sit for the CDL skills test for the P endorsement. When you finish our Passenger ELDT, DLA Academy automatically submits your completion record to FMCSA within 24 hours. You'll receive a certificate to present to the NM MVD. Bring your learner's permit, valid ID, and any required medical certification to your skills test appointment.

If you obtained your original CDL before February 7, 2022, you are grandfathered and do not need ELDT for that class. However, if you're upgrading from Class B to Class A, or adding a new endorsement (like P for Passenger) after that date, you must complete the required FMCSA-approved ELDT course. Check with the NM MVD if you're unsure of your status.
