Mississippi CDL Requirements — Quick Reference

To get any Commercial Driver's License in Mississippi you'll work through Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MS DPS). Federal ELDT requirements apply across all 49 states — DLA Academy's online theory courses satisfy the ELDT mandate, and behind-the-wheel training (where required for CDL A or CDL B) must be completed locally at an FMCSA-registered BTW provider.

For Hazmat endorsements, Mississippi uses the standard IDEMIA TSA enrollment process — schedule your fingerprinting through Universal Enroll.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What ELDT courses does DLA Academy offer for Mississippi drivers?+
We offer five FMCSA-approved ELDT courses: CDL-A Theory ELDT, CDL-B Theory ELDT, Hazmat ELDT, Passenger ELDT, and School Bus ELDT. Each is $20 and completes in under 2 hours. We also offer the CDL-A Permit Prep tool ($15), which is 119 DMV practice questions — not ELDT, but a study aid for your CLP knowledge test. All individual ELDT courses and bundles auto-submit to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours.
Do I need behind-the-wheel training with DLA Academy?+
No. DLA Academy provides the online theory portion only. Behind-the-wheel (BTW) training is a separate, required step and must be completed at a local FMCSA-registered provider in Mississippi. The MS DPS will verify your ELDT completion through the FMCSA Training Provider Registry, and you'll schedule your skills test once your BTW is done.
Who needs ELDT in Mississippi?+
Anyone applying for a CDL (Class A or B) or adding a new endorsement (H, P, or S) on or after February 7, 2022 must complete FMCSA-approved ELDT. If you received your CDL before February 7, 2022, you're grandfathered — no retroactive ELDT required for your current license. However, if you're upgrading your class or adding a new endorsement, you will need ELDT for that upgrade or endorsement.
How much does ELDT cost, and are there bundles available?+
Individual ELDT courses are $20 each. We also offer three bundles that save you money: the Hazmat + DMV Test Prep Bundle ($30, saves $5), the CDL Complete Bundle ($45 — includes CDL-A ELDT + CDL-B ELDT + CDL-A Permit Prep, saves $10 vs $55 if bought individually), and the 3-Endorsement Bundle ($50 — Hazmat + Passenger + School Bus ELDT, saves $10 vs $60 individual). DLA Academy is the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option available.
What happens after I complete my ELDT course?+
Your completion is auto-submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours. The Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MS DPS) will verify your ELDT status through that registry when you apply for your CDL. You'll then proceed with your behind-the-wheel training at a local provider and schedule your skills test with MS DPS. For Hazmat endorsements, you'll also need TSA Hazmat fingerprinting through IDEMIA Universal Enroll — that's a separate process from ELDT.
