Getting your CDL in Michigan means working with the Michigan Department of State (SOS). The federal FMCSA ELDT mandate (effective February 7, 2022) requires online training before your skills test — and DLA Academy offers the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved courses available. Individual ELDT courses are $20 each; bundles save you up to $10.

Whatever you pick, Michigan Department of State (Michigan SOS) verifies your ELDT completion through the FMCSA Training Provider Registry — DLA Academy auto-submits within 24 hours of completion.

How DLA Academy Compares to Other ELDT Providers

Other FMCSA-approved ELDT providers typically charge $23–$75 per course. DLA Academy is consistently the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option — same regulatory coverage (Appendix A to Part 380), same auto-submission to the FMCSA TPR, same 49-state acceptance. The difference is the price tag and the user experience: under 2 hours, mobile-friendly, no hidden fees, no upsells during checkout.

What's the same at every approved provider: the curriculum (set by FMCSA), the registration with the federal TPR, and the legal weight of the completion. What's different: pricing, course length, and how aggressive the upsells are.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does ELDT cost at DLA Academy?+
Individual ELDT courses are $20 each. That includes Hazmat ELDT, CDL-A Theory ELDT, CDL-B Theory ELDT, School Bus ELDT, and Passenger ELDT. If you need multiple courses, bundles offer discounts: the Hazmat + DMV Test Prep Bundle is $30 (saves $5), the 3-Endorsement Bundle (Hazmat + Passenger + School Bus) is $50 (saves $10), and the CDL Complete Bundle (CDL-A Theory + CDL-B Theory + DMV Test Prep) is $45 (saves $10). DLA Academy is the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option on the market.
How does DLA's pricing compare to other ELDT providers?+
Most FMCSA-approved providers charge $23 to $75 per course. DLA Academy charges $20 per individual ELDT course — that's the lowest rate available. When you factor in bundle discounts (up to $10 off), the savings add up fast if you're pursuing multiple endorsements or both CDL-A and CDL-B training.
What does the $20 course price include, and what's separate?+
The $20 price covers the online ELDT course only — theory instruction completes in under 2 hours. It does NOT include behind-the-wheel (BTW) training, which you'll schedule separately at a local FMCSA-registered provider in Michigan. It also does NOT include the DMV knowledge test, the CDL skills test, or TSA Hazmat fingerprinting fees (if pursuing Hazmat). The CDL-A Permit Prep ($15, sold separately or bundled) is a study tool for the DMV knowledge test — it pairs with CDL-A Theory ELDT but is not included in the base course price.
Is there a bundle that covers everything I need for a CDL-A?+
Yes — the CDL Complete Bundle is $45. It includes CDL-A Theory ELDT ($20) + CDL-B Theory ELDT ($20) + CDL-A Permit Prep ($15) = $55 individual value. You save $10. This bundle covers the federal ELDT mandate for Class A training plus the 119-question DMV practice test to prepare for Michigan SOS's CLP knowledge exam. You'll still need to complete BTW separately and pass the state skills test, but this bundle gives you the full theory and study-prep foundation.
Do I need to pay extra for TSA Hazmat fingerprinting?+
No — TSA Hazmat fingerprinting is a separate process handled through IDEMIA Universal Enroll and is not included in the Hazmat ELDT course price. After you complete the Hazmat ELDT course at DLA Academy and your Michigan SOS commercial license is issued, you'll enroll in the TSA background check (fees apply separately, set by TSA). The $20 Hazmat ELDT covers only the federal training requirement; the fingerprinting step comes afterward.
