Hawaii CDL & ELDT Training — Online Courses & Permit Prep

We offer five FMCSA-approved ELDT courses: CDL-A Theory ELDT ($20), CDL-B Theory ELDT ($20), Hazmat ELDT ($20), Passenger ELDT ($20), and School Bus ELDT ($20). Each course completes in under 2 hours. CDL-A and CDL-B Theory courses are required online training before your Class A or Class B skills test. Hazmat, Passenger, and School Bus are endorsement-specific courses required to add the H, P, or S endorsement to your license. We also offer CDL-A Permit Prep ($15), a DMV practice-test study tool with 119 questions covering general knowledge, air brakes, and combination vehicles — it pairs with CDL-A Theory ELDT but is not FMCSA-approved ELDT itself.

Individual ELDT courses are $20 each. CDL-A Permit Prep is $15. We also offer three bundled discounts: the Hazmat + DMV Test Prep Bundle ($30, saves $5 vs $35 individual), the CDL Complete Bundle ($45 for CDL-A ELDT + CDL-B ELDT + Permit Prep, saves $10 vs $55), and the 3-Endorsement Bundle ($50 for Hazmat + Passenger + School Bus ELDT, saves $10 vs $60). DLA Academy is the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option available.

Each individual ELDT course completes in under 2 hours. You can finish at your own pace and on your own schedule — there are no live sessions. Once you finish, your completion is auto-submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours, so HDOT can verify it when you apply for your permit or license.

CDL licenses issued before February 7, 2022 are grandfathered — you don't need retroactive ELDT. However, if you upgrade from CDL-B to CDL-A, or add a new endorsement (H, P, or S), you will need the ELDT course for that upgrade or endorsement even if your original license is grandfathered.

Your completion is auto-submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours. HDOT and your county Driver Licensing office (Honolulu, Hawaii, Maui, or Kauai) verify ELDT completion through the TPR when you apply for your Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) or skills test. For Hazmat endorsements, you'll also need TSA fingerprinting through IDEMIA Universal Enroll. DLA Academy does not provide behind-the-wheel training — you must complete BTW separately at a local FMCSA-registered provider before your skills test.
