Rhode Island Passenger ELDT — P Endorsement Training

The Passenger ELDT course is $20. DLA Academy is the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option — other providers typically charge $23–$75 for the same course. The Passenger ELDT course completes in under 2 hours. You can finish it on your own schedule, at your own pace.

After you complete the course, your completion certificate is auto-submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours. The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles (RI DMV) verifies your ELDT completion by checking the Registry when you apply for your P endorsement. You'll need to pass the RI DMV's knowledge test and skills test to get your endorsement.

If your CDL was issued before February 7, 2022, you are grandfathered and do not need to complete ELDT for that license class. However, if you are adding a new endorsement (like the P endorsement) or upgrading to a different class, ELDT is required by the RI DMV and FMCSA, even if your base CDL is grandfathered.

You need FMCSA-approved Passenger ELDT if you are obtaining a P endorsement for the first time on a CDL issued on or after February 7, 2022. The P endorsement allows you to operate vehicles designed to transport 16 or more passengers (including the driver). If your base CDL was issued before February 7, 2022, and you're adding a new endorsement, ELDT is still required by RI DMV.
