Maryland CDL & ELDT Training — FMCSA-Approved Online Courses

DLA Academy offers five FMCSA-approved ELDT courses: CDL-A Theory ELDT ($20), CDL-B Theory ELDT ($20), Hazmat ELDT ($20), Passenger ELDT ($20), and School Bus ELDT ($20). CDL-A and CDL-B cover the theory required before your skills test with the Maryland MVA — you'll complete behind-the-wheel training separately at a local FMCSA-registered BTW provider. Hazmat, Passenger, and School Bus are endorsement-specific ELDT courses (theory only). We also offer bundled discounts: the CDL Complete Bundle ($45 — CDL-A ELDT + CDL-B ELDT + CDL-A Permit Prep, saves $10) and the 3-Endorsement Bundle ($50 — Hazmat + Passenger + School Bus, saves $10).

Anyone applying for a CDL in Maryland for the first time on or after February 7, 2022 must complete FMCSA-approved ELDT. If you held a valid CDL before February 7, 2022, you're grandfathered and don't need retroactive ELDT — but if you're upgrading your license class (e.g., from CDL-B to CDL-A) or adding a new endorsement (Hazmat, Passenger, or School Bus), you still need ELDT for that upgrade or endorsement. Check with the Maryland MVA for your specific situation.

Each individual ELDT course completes in under 2 hours. You work at your own pace, and your completion is recorded immediately. Once you finish, DLA Academy auto-submits your completion to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours, so the Maryland MVA can verify it when you apply for your skills test.

After you complete any DLA Academy ELDT course, your completion is automatically submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours. The Maryland MVA verifies your ELDT by checking the Registry — you don't submit anything separately to them. Once verified, you're eligible to schedule your CDL skills test with the Maryland MVA.

Yes — behind-the-wheel (BTW) training is a separate, mandatory step. DLA Academy covers the online theory portion of ELDT only. You must complete BTW at a local FMCSA-registered provider before you take the skills test with the Maryland MVA. BTW is not included in DLA Academy's pricing; contact the Maryland MVA or a local CDL training school for BTW scheduling and cost.
