Getting your CDL in Illinois means working through the Illinois Secretary of State — Driver Services (IL SOS). The federal FMCSA mandate requires ELDT before you can sit for your skills test. DLA Academy is FMCSA-approved and the lowest-priced option: individual courses run $20 each, bundles range $30–$50, and completion auto-submits to the federal Training Provider Registry within 24 hours.

Whatever you pick, Illinois Secretary of State — Driver Services (IL SOS) verifies your ELDT completion through the FMCSA Training Provider Registry — DLA Academy auto-submits within 24 hours of completion.

How DLA Academy Compares to Other ELDT Providers

Other FMCSA-approved ELDT providers typically charge $23–$75 per course. DLA Academy is consistently the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option — same regulatory coverage (Appendix A to Part 380), same auto-submission to the FMCSA TPR, same 49-state acceptance. The difference is the price tag and the user experience: under 2 hours, mobile-friendly, no hidden fees, no upsells during checkout.

What's the same at every approved provider: the curriculum (set by FMCSA), the registration with the federal TPR, and the legal weight of the completion. What's different: pricing, course length, and how aggressive the upsells are.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does ELDT cost at DLA Academy?+
Individual FMCSA-approved ELDT courses are $20 each. That covers CDL-A Theory, CDL-B Theory, Hazmat, School Bus, or Passenger training. We also offer bundles: Hazmat + DMV Test Prep is $30, CDL Complete (A+B) is $45, and the 3-Endorsement Bundle (Hazmat + Passenger + School Bus) is $50. Other providers charge $23–$75 per course; DLA is the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option on the market.
How long does it take to complete an ELDT course?+
Each individual ELDT course completes in under 2 hours. You can finish online, on your own schedule, any time of day or night. No class sessions, no waiting for instructors.
What's included in the ELDT price — and what isn't?+
Your $20 ELDT course covers the federally-mandated theory training only. It does NOT include behind-the-wheel training (BTW), which you'll schedule separately at a local FMCSA-registered provider in Illinois. It also doesn't cover your DMV knowledge test, your skills test fees, or TSA fingerprinting (if you're adding Hazmat). Those are separate costs you'll incur through the IL SOS and other agencies.
How much will my total CDL cost if I buy from DLA Academy?+
DLA Academy covers only ELDT — the $20 (or $45 for CDL Complete A+B). You'll also need to budget for: local BTW training (typically $800–$2,500 in Illinois, varies by provider), DMV knowledge-test fees (check IL SOS for current rates), CDL skills-test fees (IL SOS schedule and cost), and TSA Hazmat fingerprinting ($85–$100) if you're pursuing the H endorsement. DLA's courses are just the starting point.
Are there discounts or does the price ever drop?+
No. Individual ELDT courses are always $20, Permit Prep is always $15, and bundles are fixed at $30, $45, or $50. We don't run sales or seasonal discounts — the price is what you see. If you're getting multiple courses or endorsements, bundles save you money: the CDL Complete Bundle ($45) pairs both A and B courses, and the 3-Endorsement Bundle ($50) saves $10 vs. buying Hazmat, Passenger, and School Bus separately.
