Idaho CDL & ELDT Training — FMCSA-Approved Online Courses

We offer five FMCSA-approved ELDT courses: CDL-A Theory ELDT (required before your Class A skills test), CDL-B Theory ELDT (required before your Class B skills test), Hazmat ELDT (required for the H endorsement), School Bus ELDT (required for the S endorsement), and Passenger ELDT (required for the P endorsement on 16+ passenger vehicles). Each course is $20, completes in under 2 hours, and is auto-submitted to FMCSA TPR within 24 hours. We also offer CDL-A Permit Prep ($15), a DMV practice-question tool that pairs with CDL-A Theory ELDT — it's not FMCSA-approved ELDT but helps you study for Idaho DMV's CLP knowledge test.

Individual ELDT courses are $20 each. If you're getting a Class A CDL, consider our CDL Complete Bundle ($45): CDL-A Theory ELDT + CDL-B Theory ELDT + CDL-A Permit Prep = $55 individual value, so you save $10. For endorsements, we offer the 3-Endorsement Bundle (Hazmat + Passenger + School Bus) for $50 — that's $60 individual, saving $10. DLA Academy is the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option; other providers typically charge $23–$75 per course.

Yes. ELDT covers the online theory required by federal law before your skills test. Behind-the-wheel (BTW) training is a separate step — it must be completed at a local FMCSA-registered BTW provider in Idaho. DLA Academy does not provide BTW; we handle ELDT only. Your Idaho DMV can direct you to approved local BTW providers.

If your Idaho CDL was issued before February 7, 2022, you are grandfathered and do not need ELDT to keep that license. However, if you upgrade to a higher class (e.g., Class B to Class A) or add a new endorsement (Hazmat, Passenger, School Bus), you will need ELDT for that upgrade or endorsement. Grandfathering applies to the original license class only, not upgrades or new endorsements.

After you complete Hazmat ELDT with DLA Academy, you'll enroll in TSA Hazmat fingerprinting through IDEMIA Universal Enroll (online). IDEMIA will arrange your fingerprinting appointment — either mobile or at a local enrollment center in Idaho. Once TSA approves your background, the Idaho DMV (Idaho Transportation Department — Division of Motor Vehicles) will issue your Hazmat endorsement on your CDL. TSA approval typically takes 2–3 weeks; there is a fee, which is separate from DLA's ELDT course.
