Quick answer: ELDT in Georgia costs $20 per course at DLA Academy — FMCSA-approved, online, completed in under 2 hours, and auto-submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours. Georgia Department of Driver Services (GA DDS) verifies completion through the federal TPR before testing. Required only for first-time CDL applicants and endorsement-adds after February 7, 2022.
Georgia Department of Driver Services (GA DDS) requires FMCSA-approved ELDT training before you can test for most CDL endorsements or classes. DLA Academy is listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry and serves Georgia drivers with five ELDT courses and a DMV permit prep tool. All courses are online, complete in under 2 hours, and cost $20 each—the lowest price for FMCSA-approved training.

Georgia CDL Requirements — Quick Reference

To get any Commercial Driver's License in Georgia you'll work through Georgia Department of Driver Services (GA DDS). Federal ELDT requirements apply across all 49 states — DLA Academy's online theory courses satisfy the ELDT mandate, and behind-the-wheel training (where required for CDL A or CDL B) must be completed locally at an FMCSA-registered BTW provider.

For Hazmat endorsements, Georgia uses the standard IDEMIA TSA enrollment process — schedule your fingerprinting through Universal Enroll.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What ELDT courses does DLA Academy offer for Georgia?+
We offer five FMCSA-approved ELDT courses: CDL-A Theory ELDT, CDL-B Theory ELDT, Hazmat ELDT (H endorsement), School Bus ELDT (S endorsement), and Passenger ELDT (P endorsement). Each is $20 and completes in under 2 hours. We also sell CDL-A Permit Prep ($15)—a DMV practice-question tool with 119 questions covering general knowledge, air brakes, and combination vehicles. Permit Prep is not ELDT; it's a study aid for the DMV knowledge test you take when applying for your Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). You need both ELDT and Permit Prep to prepare fully.
Do I need ELDT to get a CDL in Georgia?+
It depends on when your current driver license was issued. If you got your CDL on or after February 7, 2022, you needed ELDT and we can't help you now—you already completed it. If you got your CDL before February 7, 2022, you're grandfathered and don't need ELDT to keep your license. However, if you want to upgrade your CDL class (e.g., Class B to Class A) or add a new endorsement (H, P, or S), you still need the corresponding ELDT course. GA DDS will verify your completion through the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.
What's the difference between ELDT and the permit prep tool?+
ELDT (Entry-Level Driver Training) is federal, FMCSA-approved training that covers the safety knowledge required for commercial driving. CDL-A Theory ELDT, CDL-B Theory ELDT, Hazmat ELDT, School Bus ELDT, and Passenger ELDT are all ELDT courses—$20 each, auto-submitted to FMCSA within 24 hours. CDL-A Permit Prep ($15) is a separate DMV practice tool—119 questions covering general knowledge, air brakes, and combination vehicles. It helps you study for the DMV knowledge test you take at GA DDS when you apply for your CLP, but it is NOT FMCSA-approved ELDT and does NOT fulfill the ELDT mandate. You need both.
How much does ELDT cost, and are there bundles?+
Individual ELDT courses are $20 each. We also offer three bundles that save money: the Hazmat + DMV Test Prep Bundle ($30, saves $5 vs $35 individual), the 3-Endorsement Bundle ($50—Hazmat, Passenger, and School Bus together, saves $10 vs $60 individual), and the CDL Complete Bundle ($45—CDL-A Theory ELDT, CDL-B Theory ELDT, and CDL-A Permit Prep, saves $10 vs $55 individual). All bundles are genuine discounts. DLA Academy is the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option.
What happens after I complete ELDT with DLA Academy?+
Your completion is automatically submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours. GA DDS will verify your ELDT completion by checking the Training Provider Registry when you apply for your CDL or endorsement. You don't need to manually submit anything to GA DDS. If you're adding a Hazmat endorsement, you'll also need TSA fingerprinting through IDEMIA Universal Enroll—that's a separate process handled after ELDT approval. For all other endorsements or class upgrades, ELDT completion plus your CLP is what GA DDS needs.
