What happens after I complete the Hazmat course?
After completing Hazmat ELDT, you'll still need to complete the TSA fingerprinting process for the H endorsement. In Maryland, you'll enroll through IDEMIA Universal Enroll online, complete your background check, and get cleared by TSA. Only then can you test for the Hazmat endorsement at the MVA. ELDT is just the first step.
Who needs ELDT for endorsements?
Anyone getting a new endorsement (H, P, or S) after February 7, 2022 must complete FMCSA-approved ELDT first. If you obtained your CDL before that date, you're grandfathered on your current license—but any new endorsement or class upgrade still requires ELDT. The Maryland MVA will not issue the endorsement without proof of completion.
