Ohio School Bus ELDT Course

The School Bus ELDT is federally mandated training for any driver applying for a school bus (S) endorsement on their CDL. If you got your CDL before February 7, 2022, you're grandfathered in and don't need ELDT. If you're adding the S endorsement to an existing CDL issued before that date, you still need ELDT for the endorsement. If you're getting a new CDL or upgrading your class, you must complete School Bus ELDT before the Ohio BMV will let you test.

When you complete the School Bus ELDT, your course certificate is automatically submitted to FMCSA's TPR database within 24 hours. The Ohio BMV can verify your completion directly through the TPR, so you don't have to manually submit proof.

The Ohio BMV requires completion of an FMCSA-approved School Bus ELDT before you sit for the school bus skills test. You must also pass the Ohio BMV's knowledge test for school bus operation. Standard TSA enrollment through IDEMIA is required. Once you've completed DLA Academy's course and passed Ohio BMV's tests, you can apply for your S endorsement.
