Tennessee Passenger ELDT Course | DLA Academy

You need Passenger ELDT if you're getting a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or adding a P endorsement to an existing CDL. The P endorsement is required to drive vehicles carrying 16 or more passengers (including yourself). If your CDL was issued before February 7, 2022, you're grandfathered and don't need ELDT to renew — but upgrades or new CDLs still require it. Check with the TN DOS if you're uncertain about your status.

The Passenger ELDT course completes in under 2 hours. You can take it at your own pace — start, stop, and resume whenever you want. Once you finish, your completion is automatically submitted to FMCSA within 24 hours.

The course covers passenger-vehicle safety, operation, and regulations. It's the theoretical training mandated by FMCSA before you take the CDL skills test for the P endorsement. Note: This is online theory only. Behind-the-wheel (BTW) training is required separately at a local CDL school or trainer.

Passenger ELDT is $20. That's the lowest price for an FMCSA-approved Passenger course. If you're also getting the Hazmat and School Bus endorsements, the 3-Endorsement Bundle (Hazmat + Passenger + School Bus) is $50 and saves you $10.
