Getting your CDL in New York means working with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NY DMV). The federal FMCSA requires ELDT training before your skills test, and DLA Academy offers the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option: $20 per individual course. Want to stack endorsements or knock out CDL theory? Bundle pricing saves you $5–$10.

Whatever you pick, New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NY DMV) verifies your ELDT completion through the FMCSA Training Provider Registry — DLA Academy auto-submits within 24 hours of completion.

How DLA Academy Compares to Other ELDT Providers

Other FMCSA-approved ELDT providers typically charge $23–$75 per course. DLA Academy is consistently the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option — same regulatory coverage (Appendix A to Part 380), same auto-submission to the FMCSA TPR, same 49-state acceptance. The difference is the price tag and the user experience: under 2 hours, mobile-friendly, no hidden fees, no upsells during checkout.

What's the same at every approved provider: the curriculum (set by FMCSA), the registration with the federal TPR, and the legal weight of the completion. What's different: pricing, course length, and how aggressive the upsells are.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does DLA Academy ELDT cost?+
Individual FMCSA-approved ELDT courses are $20 each. That covers Hazmat ELDT, CDL-A Theory ELDT, CDL-B Theory ELDT, School Bus ELDT, and Passenger ELDT. We also offer CDL-A Permit Prep (DMV practice questions, not ELDT) for $15. Bundles save money: CDL Complete (CDL-A ELDT + CDL-B ELDT + Permit Prep) is $45 — that's $10 off the $55 individual price. The 3-Endorsement Bundle (Hazmat + Passenger + School Bus) is $50 — saves $10 vs. $60 individual.
How does DLA's pricing compare to other providers?+
Competitors typically charge $23–$75 per ELDT course. DLA Academy is the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option at $20 per individual course. If you're stacking endorsements, our bundles amplify the savings. The 3-Endorsement Bundle at $50 costs less than two courses elsewhere.
What does the $20 ELDT price include, and what costs extra?+
The $20 covers FMCSA-approved online training only. It does NOT include behind-the-wheel (BTW) training — you'll schedule that separately at a local FMCSA-registered provider in New York, and BTW is a separate cost. It also does NOT cover your NY DMV knowledge test, skills test, or license fees. If you need Hazmat, add TSA fingerprinting through IDEMIA (a federal requirement, separate cost). DLA covers the training mandate; the state and federal steps are your responsibility.
Is there a discount if I buy multiple courses?+
Yes. If you're going for CDL-A and adding endorsements, the CDL Complete Bundle ($45) includes CDL-A ELDT, CDL-B ELDT, and CDL-A Permit Prep — you save $10 vs. buying them separately ($20 + $20 + $15 = $55). The 3-Endorsement Bundle ($50) wraps Hazmat, Passenger, and School Bus ELDT together and saves $10 vs. $60 individual. Even a single Hazmat + Permit Prep pairing comes to $30 instead of $35 — a $5 savings.
What's the total cost to get a CDL in New York, start to finish?+
DLA Academy's part is one-time: $20–$50 depending on which courses you choose. Add on NY DMV's CLP knowledge test (free once you pass, but test fees may apply), your local BTW provider's bill (typically $800–$1,500), the NY DMV skills test fee, and TSA fingerprinting for Hazmat (if applicable, ~$85 through IDEMIA). Your BTW step is the biggest expense — DLA covers federal ELDT training only. Contact NY DMV for current fee schedules.
