Getting a CDL in Nevada means working with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (NV DMV). As of February 7, 2022, the federal FMCSA ELDT mandate requires all new CDL applicants to complete approved entry-level driver training before taking the skills test. DLA Academy is FMCSA-approved and listed on the Training Provider Registry — your course completion auto-submits to FMCSA within 24 hours, and NV DMV verifies it when you apply.

Nevada CDL Requirements — Quick Reference

To get any Commercial Driver's License in Nevada you'll work through Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (NV DMV). Federal ELDT requirements apply across all 49 states — DLA Academy's online theory courses satisfy the ELDT mandate, and behind-the-wheel training (where required for CDL A or CDL B) must be completed locally at an FMCSA-registered BTW provider.

For Hazmat endorsements, Nevada uses the standard IDEMIA TSA enrollment process — schedule your fingerprinting through Universal Enroll.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What ELDT courses does DLA Academy offer for Nevada?+
CDL-A Theory ELDT ($20) — required before the Class A CDL skills test; CDL-B Theory ELDT ($20) — required before the Class B CDL skills test; Hazmat ELDT ($20) — required for the H endorsement; School Bus ELDT ($20) — required for the S endorsement; Passenger ELDT ($20) — required for the P endorsement. All courses are under 2 hours and auto-submit to FMCSA TPR. We also offer bundles: CDL Complete Bundle ($45 — CDL-A ELDT + CDL-B ELDT + CDL-A Permit Prep, saves $10), 3-Endorsement Bundle ($50 — Hazmat + Passenger + School Bus, saves $10), and Hazmat + DMV Test Prep Bundle ($30, saves $5).
Do I need behind-the-wheel (BTW) training after ELDT?+
Yes. DLA Academy provides the online theory portion only. Behind-the-wheel training is a separate, required step that you must complete at a local FMCSA-registered provider in Nevada. After ELDT and BTW, you'll be ready for the NV DMV skills test.
I got my CDL before February 7, 2022. Do I need ELDT?+
No — your license is grandfathered and you don't need retroactive ELDT. However, if you're upgrading from Class B to Class A, or adding a new endorsement (H, P, or S), you will need the corresponding ELDT course for that upgrade or endorsement.
How do I get the Hazmat endorsement in Nevada?+
Complete the Hazmat ELDT ($20, under 2 hours) with DLA Academy. Then schedule a TSA Hazmat fingerprinting appointment through IDEMIA Universal Enroll. After fingerprinting clears, you'll take the Hazmat knowledge test at the NV DMV. The Hazmat ELDT covers the theory; TSA fingerprinting and the knowledge test are separate steps.
How long does it take to complete an ELDT course?+
Each DLA Academy ELDT course takes under 2 hours. You can complete it on your schedule, and your certificate auto-submits to FMCSA TPR within 24 hours. The NV DMV verifies your completion through the Training Provider Registry.
