Kentucky ELDT Courses & CDL Training | DLA Academy

Five FMCSA-approved ELDT courses: CDL-A Theory ELDT ($20) for Class A applicants; CDL-B Theory ELDT ($20) for Class B applicants; Hazmat ELDT ($20) for the H endorsement; Passenger ELDT ($20) for the P endorsement (16+ passenger vehicles); and School Bus ELDT ($20) for the S endorsement. Each course completes in under 2 hours. We also offer CDL-A Permit Prep ($15), a DMV practice-question tool that pairs with — but does not replace — CDL-A Theory ELDT. All ELDT courses are auto-submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours of completion; Kentucky DDL verifies your training through that registry.

Individual ELDT courses are $20 each. CDL-A Permit Prep (a DMV study tool, not ELDT) is $15. We also offer three bundles that save you money: the Hazmat + DMV Test Prep Bundle is $30 (saves $5), the CDL Complete Bundle is $45 (CDL-A ELDT + CDL-B ELDT + Permit Prep — saves $10), and the 3-Endorsement Bundle is $50 (Hazmat + Passenger + School Bus ELDT — saves $10). DLA Academy is the lowest-priced FMCSA-approved option available.

Each individual ELDT course (CDL-A Theory, CDL-B Theory, Hazmat, Passenger, School Bus) completes in under 2 hours. You can finish whenever fits your schedule — no scheduled class times, no live instructor. Completion is immediately recorded and auto-submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.

Any driver obtaining a CDL for the first time after February 7, 2022, must complete FMCSA-approved ELDT before taking the skills test. If you got your CDL before February 7, 2022, you're grandfathered — that license doesn't require retroactive ELDT. However, if you're upgrading your class (e.g., Class B to Class A) or adding any new endorsement (H, P, or S), you still need the relevant ELDT course(s), even if you hold a pre-2022 CDL. Check with Kentucky DDL if you're uncertain about your situation.

Your completion record is automatically submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours. Kentucky DDL will verify your ELDT status through that federal registry when you apply for your CDL skills test. You do not need to submit anything to Kentucky DDL yourself — the federal system handles it. Note: DLA Academy provides ELDT theory only. Behind-the-wheel (BTW) training is a separate step and must be completed at a local FMCSA-registered training provider.
