Do I need ELDT if I already have a CDL?+

If you got your CDL before February 7, 2022, you're grandfathered — no retroactive ELDT required. However, if you're upgrading your CDL class (e.g., B to A) or adding a new endorsement (Hazmat, Passenger, School Bus), you'll need the relevant FMCSA-approved ELDT course(s) before you can test. The DE DMV will check your ELDT status against the federal Training Provider Registry.

How long does it take to complete an ELDT course?+

Each individual ELDT course completes in under 2 hours. You can work at your own pace — start and stop as needed. Once you finish, your completion is auto-submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24 hours, and the DE DMV can verify it immediately.

What's the cost of DLA Academy ELDT courses?+

Individual ELDT courses (CDL-A Theory, CDL-B Theory, Hazmat, Passenger, School Bus) are $20 each. The CDL-A Permit Prep (DMV practice questions) is $15.
