What are California's ELDT and CDL requirements?+
California requires ELDT for any new CDL issued after February 7, 2022. If your CDL was issued before that date, you're grandfathered — but you still need ELDT if you upgrade your class or add a new endorsement. After ELDT, you'll need to take the CA DMV's knowledge test (Class A or B) and pass the skills test. Behind-the-wheel training is required separately at a local FMCSA-registered BTW provider — DLA Academy does not provide BTW.
