To get a Class B CDL in Alaska, you'll apply through the Alaska DMV. You must complete FMCSA-approved ELDT (that's our course), pass the Alaska DMV's knowledge test, and then pass the Alaska DMV's behind-the-wheel skills test. DLA Academy provides the theory training; behind-the-wheel training must be completed separately at a local FMCSA-registered provider. If you hold a CDL issued before February 7, 2022, you're grandfathered and don't need ELDT for that license — but if you're adding a new class or endorsement, ELDT is required.

Yes. DLA Academy is FMCSA-approved and listed on the Training Provider Registry. When you complete CDL-B Theory ELDT with us, your completion is automatically submitted to the FMCSA TPR within 24 hours. The Alaska DMV verifies your training by querying the TPR — you don't need to submit anything yourself. This applies in Alaska and 48 other states; Washington does not accept DLA's ELDT.

Yes. If you currently hold a Class C Alaska driver license (or any non-CDL license) and are upgrading to Class B, FMCSA-approved ELDT is required. The exemption only applies to drivers who already held a CDL before February 7, 2022 — those licenses are grandfathered. Any new CDL class or endorsement requires current ELDT.
